Job Description:
A unique opportunity to join a major game-changer in the online ecommerce space with great consumer brands and technology, with ambitious growth plans for the Asia Pacific region. The company now seeks an experienced director-level APAC head to spearhead its governmental affairs and public policy strategy across the Company's portfolio of brands.
This position demands focus on creating and building a bespoke engagement and ally-building strategy with the government and key stakeholders in the various countries across APAC. You will interfacing with stakeholders at the governmental, community and grassroots level across APAC to proactively build relationships with the relevant authorities and other non-governmental stakeholders, and reactively respond to regulatory issues which arise from time to time. You will help advise Expedia's business teams on the public policy implication on business strategy and potential tax issues. This role requires significant experience in government, politics or a regulatory agency with the ability to understand technical concepts in the fast-paced e-commerce and digital space.

You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of public policy or government relations, preferably having operated in a complex, multi-national company across Asia. You are confident, people-oriented, commercially-driven and able to create and execute a government relations strategy in APAC with minimum supervision. You possess superior communications skills and with the ability to influence across all levels of stakeholders internally and externally. Above all, you must be able to employ good judgment, flexibility, critical thinking and a practical approach.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
The role covers the following responsibilities:
provide government relations, public policy and regulatory support to the company by interfacing various governmental departments, regulators, consumer advocacy groups and non-governmental organisations across APAC;
create a playbook for government engagement and ally-building for each country in APAC, including situational analysis, stakeholder mapping and strategy;
execute against playbook through face-to-face interaction and through third party service providers, including consultants and academia;
interface with various brand teams to align with business and commercial strategy;
interface with the legal team to determine the regulatory risk for each market;
interface with the tax team and tax regulators on various potential tax issues;
interface with relevant regulatory authorities to resolve issues involving consumer disputes;
interface with the business/brand teams and the public relations team for regulatory compliance issues and work with regulators to resolve potential compliance issues;
undertake a range of other activities to brand build the company and its portfolio with the regulators in the APAC region.

To be successful in this role, you must be (i) confident to connect with senior government officials; (ii) highly collaborative; (iii) comfortable working in a fast-paced operating environment; and (iv) able to employ good judgment, flexibility, critical thinking and a practical approach.

Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 years' experience in government, regulatory agency, politics or corporate or public interest agency.
Ability to speak and write in English fluently. Ability to speak and write additional Asian languages preferred.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Law, Politics, International Relations or Economics.
Familiar with e-commerce, internet technology and related policy environments.
Experience working with multi-national corporations, ideally online companies, where operations can be based in one market but sales take place in another, highly preferred.
Highly collaborative team player with flexibility, sense of humour and ability to employ good judgement, critical thinking and practical approach highly preferred.
Strong ally building and social skills, and skilled in building broad relationships and networks both within the company at the senior management level, and externally with stakeholders.
Detail-oriented with superb project management skills.
Strong communicator with the ability to communicate technical concepts in an engaging and accessible manner.
Pragmatic and business-oriented.
